In Kerala, the peak tourist season is from October to February. During this time the climate is pleasant and cool and these months are perfect for sightseeing. During these months you could visit the backwaters in Alappuzha. You could enjoy this enchanting water world in a hired Kerala houseboat or in a country canoe. You should also visit the incredibly beautiful paradise called Kumarakom that is situated about 32 km away from Alappuzha and about 15 km away from Kottayam during this period. The thick mangrove forests, coconut groves, the vast greenery and paddy fields along with the Kerala backwaters make this location an enchanting destination.
Another tourist destination to visit during this season is the commercial capital of Kerala – Kochi. This beautiful destination with one of the best natural harbors in the world offers a lot to its visitors. Tourist places in and around Kochi include Bhoothanthankettu Dam, boating through the backwaters, Thattekad Bird Sanctuary, Paniely Poru, Mattancherry Palace or Dutch Palace, a Jewish synagogue in Mattancherry, Hill Palace Museum, Willingdon Island (the largest artificial man-made island in India), ecologically sensitive Magalavanam and many more.
This season is also good for a dip in the ocean and the countless beaches of Kerala would help you quench this temptation. As Kerala is bordered on the west by the Arabian Sea, Kerala is blessed with many stunning beaches and most popular of them all are Alappuzha, Marari, Cherai, Varkala, Kovalam, Kollam, Muzhappilangad and Payyambalam beach. The climate will be best for a sunbath as the tropical sun would give your skin a beautiful glow.
In Kerala, the period between March to May is the summer season. The high temperature with humid weather conditions, but even then the weather won’t go over 40-degree celsius. The occasional rainstorm will provide some respite from the scorching heat. This is the best time to enjoy the hill stations of Kerala. The cool climate and mountain breeze of these hill stations will provide great relief during the summer season. Munnar, Vagamon, Wayanad, Thekkady, Ponmudi, and Gavi are the most famous hill stations in Kerala.
In Kerala, from June to September is the monsoon season. Unlike many other destinations in India, the Kerala monsoon hardly causes any havocs and also it is a time when the landscape is blessed with scenic beauty and greenery comes alive. The monsoon season in Kerala has a romantic touch to it, the numerous rivers will be full and they will bring full glory to the various roaring waterfalls of the state. Monsoon is also a great period to have an adventure white rafting trip through the rapids of the Tejaswini River in Kannur district.
